10th April’18 – Letter ‘I’

The word I choose for the letter ‘I’ is Intimacy.

The quote I choose to go with the word Intimacy is- “Intimacy is not who you let touch you. Intimacy is who you text at 3 a.m about your dreams and fears. Intimacy is giving someone your attention, when ten other people are asking for it. Intimacy is the person always in the back of your mind, no matter how distracted you are”.

Story Time: Anu and Raj were introduced to each-other by common friends. They had met couple of times in get-together & had spoken to each-other couple of times but usually formal. One day Raj accidentally met Anu in a CCD where she was sitting alone reading a novel and enjoying her cold coffee. He requested if he can join her for which she agreed. This time Raj tried speaking informally to know more about her, as he liked her on the very first day they were introduced. At one point of time the conversation gets very personal when Raj frankly tells Anu that he likes her and is interested to take it further if she is feels the same.

Raj: Anu, I think I like you and would like to take it further.
Anu: Oh Raj, I really appreciate the effort you took to ask me, but Raj I am really sorry. I am in love with a guy from more than a decade. Though we are not in contact with each other from past 7+years, but I have decided not to get into a relationship.
Raj: When you are not in contact with him from 7+yrs then what is the problem in moving on? I am sure he would have got married and maybe have kids by now. Why are you wasting your life for him?
Anu: He might have moved on but I still love him and I cannot fall in love again, ever.
Raj: Please don’t mind me asking, but have you been in an intimate relationship with him?
Anu: What is your definition of Intimate relationship?
Raj: I mean, have you been in a physical relation or have you had a sex chat anything like that with him?
Anu: Actually I have never met him. I never had the opportunity to even shake-hands with him.  We never ever had such kind of chat too. But I still love him.
Raj: What? Are you kidding? How can you be in love with someone whom you have never met? And when there is no intimate relationship between you two why is it hard for you to move on?
Anu: What does intimacy have to do with being physical? I got to know him on Orkut. We were friends for 3 years and that’s when I fell in love with him. We knew the smallest little things about each-other our past, childhood days, struggles, disappointments, funny incidents, happiest moments, best compliments, about our weakness, strength, dreams, wishes, ambition, about day-to-day routines life, likes, dislikes, favourite or non-favourite food, fruit, vegetable, juice, colour, dress, movie, sport-person, ice-cream flavour, destination, music, artist etc. We spoke about politics, history, sports, spiritual, movie, music, and so many things.
Anu: Is this not intimacy? Don’t you think knowing a person and connecting to their soul is more intimate than getting physical? Do you think being Intimate is only when you have a physical relation and not when your soul is deeply connected with the person you love?
Raj: I am sorry if I have hurt you Anu. (Inside Raj’s mind, Wow she is an amazing girl, I have started liking Anu more for the person she is. I hope someday Anu changes her mind).
Anu: For me Intimacy means connection of my mind, heart, soul with the person I am in love with. So the answer to your question is, Yes I had an intimate relationship, as his soul was connected to mine but not the intimate physical relation you think of.
Raj: Hmm…. now I understand Anu and respect your feelings (Smiling at Anu and thinking, I adore her even more now, Oh God! please help me change her mind).
Anu : Now, can we talk about something else please??
Raj: Yes of-course Anuuu….. (Both of them laugh and continue to talk).
