Day 29- NaPoWriMo’18 – Suspicious Heart!

Published 29th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 29: And now for our daily prompt (optional, as always). Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem based on the Plath Poetry Project’s calendar. Simply pick a poem from the calendar, and then write a poem that responds or engages with your chosen Plath poem in some way.

OMG! I thought since it is the second last day of the month the prompts are gonna get easier just like the previous two days. However, this prompt not only came as a shock but this really did scare me. I did not think I can do today’s prompt. Seriously, my heart kept saying go with the prompt but my mind went on saying “No Preethi, just give up”. But finally I am listening to my heart and giving it a try. And the poem I chose for today’s prompt is “Child” by Sylvia Plath.

Child  by Sylvia Plath

Your clear eye is the one absolutely beautiful thing.
I want to fill it with color and ducks,
The zoo of the new

Whose names you meditate —
April snowdrop, Indian pipe,
Little

Stalk without wrinkle,
Pool in which images
Should be grand and classical

Not this troublous
Wringing of hands,
this dark Ceiling without a star.

My take on the poem based on today’s prompt poem is as below. The words in bold are the words I chose from the poem “Child” by Sylvia Plath. Hope I got the prompt right and did justice.

Suspicious Heart!

Your clear eye is so beautiful and charming,
Wish I knew the dreams and wishes behind it,
The heart of the new.

Whose names you meditate-
Is mine in that list too,
Hope

Knock without jiggle,
Pool of imaginations,
Should be grand and classical.

This heart is suspicious,
Holding of hands,
Under this dark Ceiling with a fluorescent star.
